  I think the slugs are eating the cucumber sprouts. Something is certainly doing away with them. I may have to try starting them indoors.

  So much for that recovery. My cucumber population has been cut in half. One of the plants is dead, and two of them look like they’re not far behind. I’ve still got one that looks great, and another that I snapped the stem off when I planted them hasn’t shriveled up, so maybe ...

  The cumbers are all upright again today. We had a fair amount of rain last night, so maybe they were just thirsty.
• Wilting badly June 2, 2010
  About half of the cucumbers are looking pretty weak today, stems bent limply to the ground. Maybe I damaged the roots when I pulled them apart. They were all standing upright this morning, but not now.
