You’ve reached the online home of Dave Chapman, a sometime writer living in Southern California. I consider myself these days to be principally a playwright, at least when it comes to writing. I do often feel the need to express myself in other ways, however, so this site will be a repository of essays, reviews, and musings — or as you kids call it these days, a blog.

I used to edit a progressive commentary and humor website called Hysterical Left. It eventually grew to be too much work for me to handle, but I miss the writing outlet it provided me. I don’t write professionally though. I never have. I used to think I wanted to, but now I wonder if I’d hate it. For now, I prefer the idea of being able to voice my opinion or tell a story the way I want to without my livelihood depending on its reception.

I also enjoy directing theatre and the occasional film, and I’ll include some photographic evidence of those exploits here. I’ll also feature pictures from my garden if I’m lucky enough to grow anything.
