The Cubs have famously not won a World Series since 1908, a mere 101 years ago. And if you talk to Cubs fans, you’ll discover that they intensely feel each of those 101 years. I do not.

Lost does season finales very well, and I’ve always enjoyed that the finales seem to change the entire premise of the series. That’s certainly the case with this thrilling finale too.

FOX hasn’t announced yet whether or not we should expect to ever see Dollhouse on the schedule again, but I thought Tim Minear’s “Omega” did a reasonably adequate job of finishing off the season and leaving room for the future.

We know the Others ultimately wipe out the Dharma Initiative — so there’s no hope of any kind of peaceful coexistence there — but what will be the fate of the Others in 2007 and beyond? It appears that fate will be determined by Mr. John Locke.

When fans of Dollhouse mourn its inevitable cancellation this month, we will point to three episodes as evidence of what might have been. “Briar Rose”, this week’s excellent entry and the penultimate episode of the season, will be one of them.

So much of Lost is about destiny: the impact our decisions have on our lives, the lives of those around us, and the lives of people we’ve never met. So this week’s developments are both surprising and baffling.

When Dollhouse misfires, this is how it does it: fascinating philosophical and moral questions tossed between the type of storyline we’ve seen a thousand times before. But at least Paul Ballard remains a wonderfully tragic character.

I found the episode entertaining enough. I wish there was more to discuss about it. I have been considering some other ideas about the series however.
